Capitol/EMI Music Catalog Marketing has released Power Station: The Power Station, a CD/DVD collection of the band's top hits, music videos, behind the scenes footage and the group's "Saturday Night Live" performance of "Some Like It Hot."
After countless hit singles, huge sell-out world tours, a film and a tour documentary, Duran Duran decided to have a well-deserved yearlong break in 1985. However, unable to rest on their laurels and stay away from the recording studio, the band effectively split into 2 with Simon LeBon & Nick Rhodes forming the basis of Arcadia whilst John Taylor (bass) & Andy Taylor (guitar) joined forces with solo artist Robert Palmer (vocals) and ex-Chic member Tony Thompson (drums) to form Power Station.
The original idea was to see John, Andy and Tony as the backbone of the band with a different guest vocalist appearing on each track. However, whilst working on some demos of a funky version of T Rex’s “Get It On,” they invited Robert Palmer to sing on the track. With everyone extremely impressed with the end result, Palmer was asked to become a permanent member and he ended up singing on each of the album's eight tracks. Originally released in April 1985, the eponymous debut album was a hit both in the UK and the US mainly due to its two hit singles merging rock with a dance edge, “Some Like It Hot” and the aforementioned T Rex cover “Get It On.”
The DVD features: Power Station behind the scenes studio footage, interviews, the videos to “Some Like It Hot” and “Get It On,” plus a bonus live version of “Some Like It Hot” from “Saturday Night Live.”
